Sarah Welch and the 2017 winner, Matthew Bennett.
The 2017 Thomas G. Welch Scholarship was awarded to Matthew Bennett. Matthew carried a 95 average at Dansville High School, while working part-time at Tops Friendly Markets. He participated in Varsity Football, Basketball, and Spring Track as well as being an integral part of the summer recreation program. Matthew was selected and participated in Boys State in the summer of 2016. He is described by his teachers to be very mature, dependable, and hard working. His talents are apparent both in his projects and his tenacious work ethic. When we read through the applications, we try to choose a student with whom Tom would have had a strong bond. Matthew is like Tom in so many ways. Matthew is attending Alfred State College, majoring Architecture. The scholarship was presented to Matthew by Sarah Welch at a ceremony at Dansville High School.
